First blog post ever!

Kia ora koutou
Welcome to my first blog post for myself, I have been involved with lots of students and class ones, but this is different.  Today we (30+of us) took part in our first of nine online sessions learning DFI (Digital Fluency Intensive).  I like how Dorothy Burt said it was a special edition, I wonder if those words will be included on our medal on completion?
I enjoyed learning the kaupapa and pedagogy behind Manaiakalani as talked about by Dorothy Burt.  What a great foresight all those educators and community had, I feel very lucky to be involved with a school that is part of Manaiakalani.
As a shy person (yes, one of those children who did not contribute ideas much in class), I felt comfortable in our group with Makaore, so thank you group, and for reiterating that no question is a bad question. :)  It's special being part of a group from throughout Aotearoa.
Today I learned heaps that will be useful with my learners, especially the emphasis of having clear set-up systems, naming docs and using Explore.  Lots of new terminology has been flying around, like colorpick, URL-omnibox, labels/tags, Lexend font, table properties, so much to learn about and I am excited to be on this journey.
My goal right now is to have more organisation in Google drive and this will overflow to home life.
Below is a Google doc that I created with lots of helpful hints from Dorothy.
Thanks for a great day everybody.

  1. Hi Pip
I loved reading your blog about your first DFI day. DFI is fantastic with such great up to date learning every week. I am sure you will find it really useful. I look forward to reading your weekly updates. You and Raewyn have done some awesome work with your class during lockdown.

  2. Kia ora Lee, thanks for your comment and feedback. I know I will find it useful especially as we resume more "normal" schooldays.

  3. Kia ora Pip. I'm so happy that you're on the DFI jounrey. I finished on Friday and I've learnt so much that I can't (and haven't in most cases) wait to put into practice! During that session I remember being surprised how versatile Google Docs are. The great thing about DFI is that if you're ever stuck there are always multiple people willing to help out.

  4. Kia ora anō Pip,
Nau mai ki te ao rangitaki / welcome te world of blogging. It is great that you are focussing on your Drive, as an organised Drive will assist greatly with your work flow (so I've heard, as I am still trying to tame mine! Lol). I look forward to catching up in our DFI bubble tomorrow.

I totally agree with you we are very lucky and privileged to be apart of Manaiakalani. I have been involved in Manaiakalani outreach since 2015 and it has transformed my professional practice and been a game charger in my teaching career. I also rearranged some of my Google Drive which I am already finding a time saver. I love your Google Doc creation. I thought it was such a lovely idea to share what your school looks like in alert level 3 for those who are still learning at home. Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow in our online bubble.
    Ngā mihi

  6. Kia ora Pip! Great to meet you (digitally) last week. Yes I agree - I felt comfortable in our smaller bubble group too. And thank goodness about the "no question is a bad question" because as you may have noticed, I need lots of clarification so I like to ask questions!!! I enjoyed reading your first professional blog post. You seem to feel much like myself and have come away with lots that will be useful with your learners as well as improving your workflow. I haven't had a chance to read many of the others' blogs but here's one that I found useful: Chris Sefontein. This will definitely be my goal this week - to read a few more as I find them useful as I pick up some good tips. Hope you enjoy our next session today!
